报告摘要:Diamond’s extreme properties in the context of quantum applications is well known, however, it also has an array of unusual thermal and nonlinear optical properties that present substantial opportunities in related areas. We have been investigating the properties of bulk and surface optics of bulk single crystals. We show that diamond reveals unexpected behaviour in several key aspects and is enabling extreme performance in areas as diverse as coherent beam generation, nanostructured diamond devices and quantum randomness.
报告人简介:Richard Mildren,澳大利亚Macquarie University物理系教授,光子研究中心副主任,担任澳大利亚研究基金委员会Fellow。其研究领域包括高亮度金刚石拉曼激光器、窄线宽布里渊激光器以及新型IV族非线性光学材料等,主持包括美国空军研究室基金、澳大利亚国家科学基金等多项课题。作为主编出版专著《Optical engineering of diamond》1项,专著章节4篇,并在Nature Communication、Laser & Photonics Review、Optica等国际著名期刊发表学术论文70余篇,申请美国发明专利8项。诸多成果在Nature News、Laser Focus World、Optics and Photonics 等网站得到了公开报道。基于其在高功率金刚石激光器领域的研究贡献,Richard Mildren教授被授予2017年澳大利亚科学最高荣誉奖“Eureka Prizes”(杰出科学与国防领域)。
